Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], February 28: The 4th Convocation of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) was held on 27th February, 2026. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, the Chief Justice of India, graced the occasion as the ‘Chief Guest’. Hon’ble Justice Shri Aravind Kumar, Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Justice Shri N.V. Anjaria, Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Justice Shri V. M. Pancholi, Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat and Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Sunita Agarwal, Chief Justice, High Court of Gujarat graced the function as the ‘Guests of Honour’. Padma Shri awardee Dr. J.M. Vyas, Vice Chancellor of NFSU, conferred degrees to the students during the convocation ceremony.
A total 1,799 students conferred degrees, including 17 Ph.D. recipients. In recognition of academic excellence, 52 gold medals were given to meritorious students. A landmark initiative was unveiled during the convocation. The International Digital Dispute Resolution Centre (IDDRC) was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India. The IDDRC is envisioned to enhance accessibility and effectiveness in dispute resolution, not only in India but across the globe.
Justice Surya Kant, the Chief Justice of India (CJI), in his convocation address elaborated on the role of forensic sciences in justice delivery system. He termed the discipline as ‘Suraksha Kavach’ for the justice in the times marked by sophisticated crimes committed by the use of technology. In his address, he asked the students to ensure that there is scientific vigour along with objectivity. He said that the reports prepared by the forensic scientists have implications far beyond the laboratories as it can affect lives. He asked them to ensure that the justice delivery system in India remains principled and precise with evidences rooted in scientific objectivity and impartiality. The CJI said that the judiciary depends on the expert opinions in the new-age crimes. He said that the signature of the experts on the report is not just a professional opinion but testament to trust. He termed the justice delivery as a collective enterprise encompassing all from judges and lawyers to experts and investigators.

Padma Shri Awardee Dr. J.M. Vyas, founder Vice Chancellor of NFSU, commended the university’s 4th Convocation as a milestone in India’s pursuit of science-driven justice and technology-enabled security. More than an academic celebration, the event reflected a national commitment to evidence-based governance and forensic capacity building. Dr. J.M. Vyas reaffirmed NFSU’s mission under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, emphasizing the university’s role in ensuring that justice remains firmly anchored in scientific truth. He highlighted NFSU’s dedication to nurturing professionals who embody integrity, serve the nation with commitment, and contribute to strengthening global security.
Dr. Vyas further said “This year, 1,799 students from 66 specialized programs, including 98 international students from 21 countries, received degrees, reinforcing NFSU’s growing global stature. With 7,932 alumni serving investigative agencies, laboratories, courts, and security organizations worldwide, the university continues to shape the future of justice delivery. Beyond academia, NFSU has trained nearly 28,000 professionals, including 5,400 judicial officers and thousands of international personnel.”
The convocation witnessed the participation from international dignitaries, alongside eminent personalities from across India, officers from various Law Enforcement Agencies, Judicial Officers, members of the Board of Governors and Academic Council, faculty members, students, and their families.
