Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], July 20, In 2014, a customer walked into a showroom in Ahmedabad asking for a stainless-steel pedal dustbin. He looked at the price, then turned to the man behind the counter and asked whether he could afford it himself.
That question did not get a good answer. What it got instead was a company.
Kunal Panchal, who was already running stainless steel manufacturing operations through Neptune Pharma Equipments Pvt. Ltd. (formerly Neptune Industries), took the jab seriously enough to build a brand around fixing it. The premise was narrow and slightly stubborn: stainless steel dustbins in India were either cheap and awful or good and unaffordable, and there was no reason both had to be true. Mr. Bin launched that year.
Twelve years later, the company describes itself as India’s largest stainless steel dustbin manufacturer, with bins installed at the Sabarmati Riverfront, ONGC facilities, the Reserve Bank of India, Ahmedabad University and multiple Indian airports.
The unglamorous years: trademarks, dies and 2,000 bins to Dubai
The first phase of Mr. Bin was not a growth story. It was tooling. Through 2014 the company put money into trademark registration, product design, dies and manufacturing tools, the sort of spending that produces nothing visible for a year and determines everything afterwards.
The first real signal came in 2015 at a pharma exhibition, where the company picked up an export order for 2,000 steel dustbins to Dubai. For a brand barely a year old, a five-figure export shipment is not just revenue. It is proof that the product survives shipping, customs and a customer who has never met you.
By 2016 the buyers were domestic and recognisable: Havmor, La Pino’z Pizza and Vadilal. Food and dairy is a demanding first vertical. These are businesses where a rusting or badly sealed bin becomes an audit problem, not an aesthetic one.
Then came the part that actually built the moat. Over 2017 the company developed more than twenty distinct stainless steel dustbin designs, pedal, swing, push, perforated, flap, multi-waste, turning what had been a single-product idea into one of India’s widest ranges in the category. By 2018 the client list in Ahmedabad alone covered malls, clubs, multiplexes and corporate offices.
When a dustbin became a design object
In 2019, Mr. Bin worked on the Happy Street public space project with design support from the National Institute of Design. That collaboration marks the point where the company stopped thinking of itself purely as a fabricator.
A bin on a closed-to-traffic street full of families is a different brief from a bin in a factory corridor. It has to be visible enough to use, sturdy enough to survive a crowd, and pleasant enough that nobody wants it moved. NID’s involvement pushed the product toward finishes, proportions and lid geometry rather than just gauge and weld quality.
The following year Mr. Bin crossed 25,000 stainless steel dustbins delivered across India, running a public cleanliness campaign under the line “अच्छी आदत बनानी पड़ती है!” good habits have to be built. It is an unusually honest slogan for the category. Nobody becomes tidy because a bin exists. They become tidy because using it becomes automatic, which takes repetition and, inconveniently, bins that are actually where people need them.
Riverfronts, refineries and the RBI
2021 took the company into real estate, supplying premium outdoor bins to residential and commercial developments, a segment where the bin sits in a marketing photograph of the podium garden and therefore has to look like it belongs there.
2022 was the institutional year. Mr. Bin won projects with ONGC, the Sabarmati Riverfront including the Atal Bridge, the Reserve Bank of India, Ahmedabad University and airport authorities. These are procurement processes with specifications, warranties and inspection, and clearing them repeatedly is a harder credential than any client logo wall.
In 2023 the company launched HarGharMrBin along with an online store, taking a product built for institutional buyers and making it available to individual homes and small offices. A brand that spent nine years selling in bulk to procurement departments now had to explain itself to someone buying one bin for a kitchen.
What the company makes now
As an indoor and outdoor waste bin manufacturer in India, Mr. Bin runs two distinct catalogues from its Vatva plant.
The indoor range covers soft-close pedal bins, swing bins with removable inner buckets, plasteel swing bins, perforated round bins and finish variants in gold, black and brown rock texture.
The outdoor range handles volume and abuse: the 55-litre SS Push Bin with tapered dome-top holes, ash bins, flap bins, pole-mounted perforated bins, wall-mounted ashtray barrels, and Duo, Trio and Quadruple segregation units for sites that need two to four waste streams at the point of disposal.
Customers span hospitals, commercial kitchens, offices, petrol pumps, pharmaceutical plants, public spaces, hotels, shopping malls, airports and residential projects. Smaller orders go through the company’s online store.
The 2036 number
Mr. Bin has set itself a target of becoming a globally trusted hygiene brand by 2036, serving over one million clients across India, the UAE and Africa.
That is an ambitious number for a company that makes bins, and worth reading with some caution, the UAE and African markets have their own established suppliers, and export scale is a different problem from domestic scale. But the trajectory from a single showroom argument to riverfront and airport contracts suggests the company is at least methodical about how it gets somewhere.
The founding anecdote is still the most useful thing about the business. Someone asked whether the person selling an expensive product could afford it. Most people would have been annoyed. This one went and rebuilt the product.
