Training Basket CEO: “The Biggest Risk in IT Education Is Not Teaching Too Much It Is Teaching Without Job Outcomes”

Nayan Verma, Founder & Co- Founder – Training Basket

Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 11: Nayan Verma has spent five years building an IT training institution that 2 lakh students chose over every alternative available to them. His diagnosis of what is wrong with Indian IT education and what fixing it actually requires is worth every minute of a hiring manager’s attention.

Nayan Verma says things that most EdTech founders are careful not to say publicly.

He says that the Indian IT certification market is producing graduates who cannot function in production environments. He says that curriculum breadth without placement accountability is not education, it is an expensive illusion. And he says, without any visible discomfort, that the biggest institutional risk in Indian IT training today is not the quality of what is being taught. It is the absence of any serious commitment to where students end up after the teaching is done.

The CEO and Founder of Training Basket, the Noida-based hybrid IT training institution that has built a verified alumni base of over 2 lakh students without raising a single rupee of external capital is not speaking theoretically. He is speaking from five years of placement data, corporate renewal conversations, and hiring manager feedback that most training institutes never collect because they are not structured to act on it.

“The biggest risk in IT education is not teaching too much,” he says, settling into the conversation with the measured directness of someone who has made this argument before. “It is teaching without job outcomes. You can have the most sophisticated curriculum in the country, every tool, every framework, every certification pathway covered and it means nothing if the student cannot walk into an interview room and execute. The curriculum is not the product. The placed graduate is the product.”

The Outcome Gap Nobody Is Measuring

The problem Verma is identifying has a specific technical name in education policy circles: the implementation gap. It is the distance between what an institution teaches and what a graduate can deploy in a real work environment.

In Indian IT training, that gap has been systematically underreported because the institutions best positioned to measure it the training institutes themselves have the least incentive to publicise unflattering data.

“Most institutes measure enrolments and completions,” says Verma. “Very few measure what happens ninety days after the certificate is issued. We measure it. We have to because our referral business depends entirely on that ninety-day outcome. If a student does not get placed, they do not refer. If they do not refer, we do not grow. The placement outcome is not a social responsibility initiative. It is the commercial foundation of everything we do.”

Training Basket’s placement cell operates as the institution’s primary intelligence function, not just its employment support function. The feedback that flows from interview rooms into curriculum reviews at Training Basket is the mechanism through which the institution maintains the outcome alignment that its commercial model requires.

“When our placement team tells me that hiring managers at three different IT services companies are now asking about a specific cloud deployment pattern that we are not yet covering in depth, we do not put it on a future roadmap,” says Verma. “We update the curriculum within the current batch cycle. The market does not wait. Our students cannot afford for us to wait either.”

Why Most Institutes Are Structurally Unable to Fix This

The outcome gap is not a curriculum problem, Verma argues. It is an incentive architecture problem and it is structural.

Training institutes that are funded by external capital are optimised, by design, for the metrics that support the next funding conversation: enrolments, revenue growth, catalogue breadth, platform engagement. These are not outcome metrics. They are acquisition metrics. And they create an institutional environment where the question “did this student get placed?” is genuinely secondary to the question “did this student enrol?”

“The incentive structure determines the product,” he says. “If you are optimised for enrolments, you will build a great marketing machine. If you are optimised for placements, you will build a great training machine. You cannot fully build both simultaneously because they require different decisions at every level of the organisation. We chose placements. Every decision we have made in five years follows from that choice.”

At Training Basket, the practical consequence of that choice is visible in the institution’s operational architecture. The placement cell is staffed and resourced proportionately to the student base not as an afterthought. The faculty are assessed, in part, on the post-training performance of the students they taught. The curriculum review cycle is driven by hiring market intelligence rather than academic planning calendars.

What the Market Is Finally Starting to Demand

Verma is cautiously optimistic about where the IT training market is heading not because the sector has become more responsible, but because students have become more demanding.

“The verification infrastructure that exists today did not exist five years ago,” he says. “A student considering a programme in 2026 can identify every Training Basket alumnus working in a relevant role on LinkedIn, contact them directly, and have a more accurate picture of our placement outcomes than anything we could put in a brochure. That transparency is forcing quality. The institutes that cannot survive scrutiny are losing students to the ones that can.”

The consolidation Verma describes is not yet complete. But its direction is clear toward institutions whose outcomes are verifiable, whose alumni are employed and visible, and whose placement commitment is structural rather than promotional.

“In five years,” he says, “the IT training institutes that are still operating will be the ones that treated placement as their primary function and curriculum as the instrument that serves it. Everything else the course catalogues, the LMS platforms, the certification branding is infrastructure. The outcome is the institution.”

He pauses, then adds the line that has evidently become something of a governing principle at Training Basket.

“Teach well. Place reliably. Let the market do the rest.”

Two lakh alumni later, the market has.

Training Basket is a Noida-based hybrid IT training and certification institution with over 2 lakh students and alumni across India. Founded by Nayan Verma and Rishabh Raj, the institute delivers instructor-led programmes across AI, Data Science, Cloud Computing, DevOps, Networking, Cybersecurity, Web Development, and Digital Marketing with dedicated placement support. | trainingbasket.in
