New Delhi [India], September 30: Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas A career spanning academia, information technology and fashion may seem unconventional, but for Dallas–Fort Worth-based designer and entrepreneur Apsara Jaiswal, each chapter has contributed to a larger journey centered on creativity, Indian heritage and women’s empowerment.
Apsara Jaiswal, founder of I Am Apsara by Apsara Jaiswal, has built her fashion identity around Indian ethnic wear, contemporary fusion, handloom traditions and bespoke design. Her work seeks to connect India’s centuries-old craftsmanship with a modern, international audience.
More recently, her journey expanded beyond fashion when she represented Texas as a contestant on the Mrs Universe USA 2027 platform and was crowned Mrs India USA Universe 2027.
But fashion was not where her professional story began.
From Academia to Information Technology
Education has played a significant role in Apsara’s life. She holds two master’s degrees a Master of Arts and a Master of Library and Information Science (M.Lib.).
Her early career was rooted in education and academia. She spent five years serving as Head Librarian at Rajasthan Dental College, where she managed academic library operations and worked in an environment centered on education and professional learning.
Her career later took her into an entirely different field: information technology.
Apsara became a Certified Cloud Architect and worked as an IT professional in the financial sector. It was a significant professional transition, taking her from an academic environment into the rapidly evolving world of technology and cloud computing.
Yet fashion remained a personal passion.
Eventually, she made another major career change, leaving an established technology profession to pursue that passion and build her own fashion business.
Her path from librarian to cloud architect to fashion designer has shaped one of the central ideas behind her work: people, particularly women, should not feel confined to a single professional identity or chapter in life.
For Apsara, reinvention became part of the journey.
Building a Fashion Identity Rooted in India
Through I Am Apsara by Apsara Jaiswal, she has focused on creating a bridge between traditional Indian craftsmanship and contemporary fashion.
Her collections span Indian ethnic wear, fusion designs, handloom textiles, curated collections and bespoke pieces. Rather than focusing solely on trends, Apsara says her goal is to offer designs that allow women to retain a connection to culture while expressing their individuality.
An important part of that effort is her work with artisans and weavers in India.
Apsara currently collaborates with artisans across 20 Indian states, incorporating regional textiles, handloom traditions and traditional techniques into her collections.
Behind that work is a larger objective: to help preserve traditional skills while expanding the international visibility of the craftspeople who continue to practice them.
For Apsara’s, Indian fashion is not simply an aesthetic. Each textile and handcrafted technique carries a connection to a region, community and tradition.
Her long-term ambition is to take those traditions to a wider global audience without losing the cultural identity behind them.
Recognition on the Fashion Stage
Apsara’s work has also brought her recognition through fashion and pageant platforms.
In 2026, she received the Best Designer Award at Mrs Universe USA/MyDream Global, presented by Indian filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar.
She was also recognized at Texas Fashion Week/MyDream Global, where she received Business Woman of the Year and a Best Designer Award 2026, presented by Indian actress Sunny Leone.
The association later extended to the runway, with Leone appearing as a showstopper for Apsara’s “I Am Apsara” fashion presentation.
For a designer who entered fashion after established careers in academia and technology, those moments represented milestones in an unconventional professional transition.
“Every Woman Is an Apsara”
Beyond clothing, Apsara has developed her brand around a broader philosophy: “Every woman is an Apsara.”
In Indian mythology and cultural tradition, the word Apsara evokes beauty and grace. Apsara has sought to reinterpret the idea for contemporary women, separating beauty from narrow expectations surrounding age, size or background.
Her message emphasizes individuality and self-confidence rather than conformity.
It is also reflected in the brand’s tagline, “Wear Happiness.”
The philosophy grew from Apsara’s own experience of changing careers and pursuing a creative ambition after years in other professions.
Her story, she says, has taught her that women do not have to remain defined by a previous career, age, expectations or the path they initially chose.
Giving Everyday Women a Voice
That philosophy has expanded beyond fashion through the “I Am Apsara” Podcast, a platform Apsara created to share the experiences of everyday women.
Rather than concentrating exclusively on public figures or conventional success stories, the podcast is intended to highlight personal journeys including challenges, transformations, ambitions and accomplishments that may otherwise receive little public attention.
The idea complements her fashion philosophy: that a woman’s individuality and story deserve recognition beyond her appearance.
For Apsara, empowerment is not simply about telling women to be confident. It is also about creating spaces where their experiences can be heard.
A New Chapter: Mrs India USA Universe 2027
Apsara’s participation in the Mrs Universe USA 2027 platform opened another chapter in that journey.
After representing Texas as a contestant, she was crowned Mrs India USA Universe 2027.
She views the pageant experience as an extension of her work in fashion and women’s empowerment rather than simply a competition centered on a crown.
The platform has provided another opportunity to bring together the different elements of her story an Indian cultural identity, entrepreneurship, fashion, professional reinvention and advocacy for women to pursue their ambitions.
Apsara has also expressed appreciation to the Mrs Universe USA and MyDream Global team. Personally Rashmi bedi, Janak bedi and Surya bedi for providing women with a platform to present not only their appearance, but also their achievements, experiences and aspirations.
A Global Vision With Indian Roots
Looking ahead, Apsara wants to develop I Am Apsara by Apsara Jaiswal into a globally recognized Indian fashion label while maintaining its connection to the artisans and traditions that inspired it.
Her larger vision includes expanding opportunities for Indian craftspeople, introducing regional techniques to international audiences and encouraging younger generations to appreciate the cultural value behind traditional craftsmanship.
At the same time, she hopes to continue developing I Am Apsara as a broader platform for women one that is not restricted by age, body type, profession, background or conventional expectations.
Her own career has already crossed several seemingly unrelated worlds: from managing an academic library in Rajasthan, to becoming a cloud architect and working in the financial technology sector, to building a fashion business in USA and stepping onto national and international fashion and pageant platforms.
The transitions are perhaps the most revealing part of her story.
They reflect the principle she now communicates through her work: a person’s previous chapter does not have to determine the next one.
For Apsara, the journey continues to be rooted in two ideas carrying Indian heritage forward while encouraging women to define success on their own terms.
And behind the collections, awards, runway appearances and new ventures remains the simple phrase that has become the signature of her brand:
