Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji a famous spiritual guru in India
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], October 27: In a country where spirituality has long been part of everyday life, the influence of a spiritual guru is increasingly being seen through the impact their teachings create beyond religious spaces. For many of the famous spiritual gurus in India, spirituality has evolved into a pathway towards self-awareness, compassion and meaningful service to society.
Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji, founder of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur, represents this broader approach to spiritual leadership. A devotee of Shrimad Rajchandraji, he has built a global spiritual movement that combines inner transformation with social service. Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur currently has centres across six continents. The Mission statement is “Realise One’s True Self and Serve Others Selflessly”.
From Inner Transformation to Social Impact
A defining aspect of Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji’s work is the connection between spirituality and seva. Through Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care, an initiative inspired by Shrimad Rajchandraji and guided by Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji, spiritual values have been translated into programmes addressing healthcare, education, tribal and women’s care, child welfare, humanitarian assistance, animal care, environmental care, community development and emergency relief.
This approach reflects how contemporary Indian spiritual leaders can engage with social concerns while remaining rooted in spiritual wisdom. The organisation’s work is designed to support underserved communities through charitable and sustainable initiatives, creating a tangible expression of compassion.
Healthcare That Reaches the Underserved
One of the most visible examples is the Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital and Research Centre in South Gujarat. The 250-bed charitable multi-speciality hospital provides free or highly subsidised healthcare, with a focus on medically underserved rural communities. The wider Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital Network has now grown to 2000 beds and also includes medical camps and specialised care initiatives.
For Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji, such initiatives demonstrate that spirituality can find expression in practical action, particularly when it comes to serving communities with limited access to essential services.
Extending Compassion to Animals
His vision of compassion also extends beyond human welfare. Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care’s Animal Care initiative includes veterinary services, animal rescue, cattle rehabilitation, an animal helpline and support for shelters. Through these initiatives, the organisation has tended to more than 5 lakh animals, including treating and rehabilitating them.
At the heart of this work is Shrimad Rajchandra Jivamaitridham in Dharampur, envisioned as a model centre of ahimsa where animals are treated with care, dignity and friendship. This encompasses an upcoming Animal Hospital, Animal Shelters, an Institute of Veterinary Science and an Ahimsa Awareness Centre.
A Broader Definition of Spiritual Leadership
The work of Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji offers an example of how a spiritual organisation in India can extend its influence through education, healthcare, humanitarian initiatives and compassion towards animals and the environment.
For audiences exploring the work of the famous spiritual gurus of India, this broader dimension of spiritual leadership offers another perspective: influence can extend beyond religious identity when spiritual principles are translated into service, community development and everyday action.
Through his teachings and the initiatives inspired by them, Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji’s work continues to connect the inward journey of spirituality with an outward commitment to seva, compassion and social wellbeing.
