Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 18: Leo Club of Juhu and Lions Club of Juhu hosted Champions Roar, an inspiring evening celebrating the historic victory of the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team, winners of the first-ever Blind Women’s Cricket World Cup, in Mumbai.
The event honoured the World Champions for their extraordinary achievement and indomitable spirit. A heartfelt felicitation ceremony was followed by an engaging interactive talk show, featuring team members and esteemed panellists, who shared powerful insights into determination, discipline, and inclusion.
The association of the Leo Club of Juhu with the team began with an outreach to the Cricket Association for the Blind of Maharashtra to understand how the players could be supported. Through this interaction, the Club learnt about Vice-Captain Ganga Kadam being the only player from Maharashtra selected for the inaugural Blind Women’s Cricket World Cup and the requirement for essential playing equipment.
The Leo Club of Juhu donated an English SS Willow Cricket Bat to Vice-Captain Ganga Kadam. The same bat became part of her journey through the tournament, as she played with it throughout the season, including the World Cup final, a small act of support that became part of a historic victory.
Expressing gratitude, Ganga Kadam, Vice-Captain of the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team, said, “The belief and support we received from organisations like the Leo Club of Juhu made a real difference. Knowing that people stood by us off the field gave us the strength to perform on it.”
Ms Devangi Dalal, National Awardee, Audiologist & Speech-Language Pathologist, Hearing Health Advocate and Founder-Trustee, JOSH Foundation, also a member of Lions Club of Juhu, was a key panellist at the talk show. Speaking at the event, she said, “These women have not just won a World Cup, they have proved that inclusion makes them national assets. Their victory has rewritten the narrative around disability, determination, dignity, and is a reminder that when society supports inclusion, excellence naturally follows.”
The evening also featured a special stand-up comedy performance by Kushal Bhanushali, a visually impaired comedian who has opened for Samay Raina, adding a spirited and inclusive dimension to the celebration.
During the event, Leo Club of Juhu and Lions Club of Juhu announced a gracious contribution of ₹1,11,000/- to support the team’s essential requirements.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhruvi Shah, President of Leo Club of Juhu, said, “Champions’ Roar was our tribute to these extraordinary athletes whose journey inspires the nation. What began as a simple intent to help has today become a moment of shared pride.”
Champions’ Roar stood as a celebration of courage, equality, and the belief that true champions rise beyond limitations.
