Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 27: From narrative films and documentaries to branded campaigns and digital programming, editor Anushri Srinivasan Iyer has built a diverse body of work defined by editorial versatility, technical precision, and an understanding of how different formats shape storytelling.

One Editor, Multiple Storytelling Languages

Anushri Srinivasan Iyer’s editorial career spans independent films, documentaries, commercial projects, digital content, and studio television. Working across these formats has given her experience with different approaches to pacing, structure, and audience engagement, while allowing her to contribute to productions with distinct creative and technical demands.

With professional experience spanning Dubai, Mumbai, and Los Angeles, Iyer has developed a portfolio that includes additional editing on the feature Where the Wind Blows, writing, directing, and editing the psychological thriller Radhika, and editing the short film Vijaya Dashmi. Her credits also include assistant editing on the documentary The Best Summer, commercial projects for brands including Meta and Spotify, video editing for Hollywood Insider, and post-production work on the second season of Dark Matter.

These projects represent different sides of editorial work. Narrative filmmaking requires attention to character, performance, and dramatic structure. Documentary production calls for sensitivity to real events and the relationships between recorded moments. Commercials and digital programming introduce different expectations around timing, clarity, and audience attention, while studio television demands coordination within an established post-production pipeline.

For Iyer, the ability to move between these environments is an important part of her professional practice.

“Every project has its own rhythm,” Iyer says. “The challenge is understanding what the story needs instead of imposing the same style or pace on everything you edit.”

That approach connects the different formats in her portfolio: rather than treating versatility as a single visual style, she approaches each project according to its individual storytelling objectives.

Narrative Editing: From Psychological Thrillers to Features

Iyer’s narrative work demonstrates her interest in how editorial decisions shape suspense, emotional clarity, and the audience’s understanding of a story.

As the additional editor on Where the Wind Blows, she contributed to a feature that has been released on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video. Feature filmmaking requires an editor to consider how individual scenes function within a larger dramatic structure, balancing the momentum of the story with the time audiences need to absorb character, atmosphere, and narrative information.

Her work on Radhika, a psychological thriller she wrote, directed, and edited, brought these creative responsibilities together. The film received recognition at the Tagore International Film Festival and the Sun of the East International Film Festival. Having worked across the screenplay, direction, and edit, Iyer was involved in shaping the story from its conception through its final presentation.

Psychological thrillers rely heavily on the management of information. The timing of a reaction, the length of a pause, or the decision to withhold a detail can change how an audience interprets a scene. Editing becomes a way to build uncertainty while ensuring that the story remains coherent.

Iyer’s work on Vijaya Dashmi offered another opportunity to shape a short-form narrative. The film was recognized among the Top 100 at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival. With limited screen time, short films require careful decisions about which moments to retain, how quickly to establish emotional stakes, and how to preserve the story’s central idea without unnecessary distractions.

Together, these projects illustrate her experience with narrative storytelling at different lengths. A feature must sustain its structure across an extended runtime, while a short film must make each sequence count. Both require an understanding of how individual editorial choices contribute to the audience’s overall experience.

Documentary Work: Finding Structure in Real Events

Documentary editing presents a different set of challenges. Rather than working exclusively with scripted scenes and planned coverage, editors must help shape a narrative from material gathered in real-world circumstances. The process involves organizing footage, identifying meaningful connections, and supporting the story without losing sight of the people and events being documented.

Iyer worked as an assistant editor on The Best Summer, directed by Tamra Davis and edited by Jessica Hernandez. The documentary premiered in the Midnight section at the 2026 Sundance

Film Festival. The project placed her within a nonfiction production environment where organization, collaboration, and careful management of footage are important to the editorial process.

She has also worked on several additional documentaries scheduled for release in 2027, extending her experience across nonfiction projects.

Documentary projects can require an editor to recognize the significance of a moment only after considering it alongside other material. A scene that initially appears incidental may reveal a larger pattern, while an emotionally powerful sequence may need to be placed in context to serve the film as a whole.

“Documentary editing asks you to pay attention to what is already there,” Iyer says. “You are looking for connections, patterns, and moments that reveal something meaningful, while making sure the edit serves the story rather than distracting from it.”

Her documentary experience complements her narrative work by bringing a different relationship to structure and storytelling. In both cases, the goal is to find a coherent and engaging progression, but the material determines how that progression takes shape.

Commercial Editing: Making Every Second Count

Iyer’s commercial portfolio includes projects for globally recognized brands such as Meta and Spotify, where she has worked as an assistant editor. These projects introduce a different set of priorities from feature filmmaking, including defined runtimes, brand guidelines, campaign objectives, and specific delivery requirements.

Commercial editing often requires an idea to register quickly. The editor must help establish tone, identify the most effective material, and create a progression that communicates the intended message within a limited amount of time. The challenge is to balance efficiency with visual appeal while ensuring that the final piece remains coherent.

Working on branded content also involves adapting to different creative expectations. Each campaign has its own identity, and the editorial approach must support that identity while responding to feedback and production requirements. Assistant editing contributes to this process through the organization and preparation of material, version management, and support for the broader editorial workflow.

“Editing is always about choices,” Iyer. “The format changes how you make those choices, but you still have to understand what matters most and make sure every moment has a purpose.”

Her experience in commercial production adds another dimension to her work across narrative and nonfiction formats, where pacing and structure may serve different objectives but still depend on deliberate editorial decisions.

Digital Storytelling for YouTube Audiences

Iyer’s work as a video editor for Hollywood Insider extended her experience into digital programming focused on film, entertainment, and cultural subjects. She edited multiple videos for the publication, working with material intended for online audiences rather than the viewing environments associated with feature films or television.

This requires a different balance of pacing and explanation from narrative filmmaking. Rather than building suspense around a fictional event, commentary-driven content may need to guide viewers through an argument or subject while keeping the presentation accessible and engaging.

Iyer’s experience in this area demonstrates how editorial skills can transfer across platforms without making the formats interchangeable. The same attention to continuity, structure, and rhythm remains relevant, but the audience’s relationship with the material influences how those skills are applied.

“Different platforms create different relationships with the audience,” Iyer says. “You have to understand how people are watching and what will help them stay connected to the story or idea.”

Her digital work sits alongside her film, documentary, and commercial credits as part of a broader editorial portfolio that encompasses both entertainment and informational content.

The Technical Craft Behind the Creative Decisions

Alongside her project-based editing experience, Iyer has worked in the post-production department on the second season of Dark Matter, the science-fiction series produced for Apple TV by Sony Pictures Television.

Studio television operates within a coordinated production pipeline, with multiple departments managing media, versions, schedules, and deliverables. Post-production work requires technical precision, clear communication, and an understanding of how individual tasks fit into the larger process.

This work requires operational demands of a large-scale television production. It also highlights a practical dimension of editorial work: creative decisions depend on workflows that allow the right material to be available, organized, and ready for review.

For Iyer, experience across independent films, documentaries, branded content, digital programming, and studio television has meant navigating different production environments as well as different storytelling goals.

A Portfolio Defined by Editorial Versatility

One of Iyer’s key professional achievements has been building an editorial portfolio that spans short films, features, documentaries, commercials, and digital content, alongside experience in studio television post-production. Her work across these areas reflects an ability to contribute to productions with different creative priorities, workflows, and audiences.

Her narrative credits include projects recognized at film festivals, while her documentary work includes a production that premiered at Sundance. Commercial projects for Meta and Spotify, digital editing for Hollywood Insider, and post-production work on Dark Matter further demonstrate the range of environments in which she has worked.

Iyer is also looking to expand her work in commercials, music videos, and podcasts. With several more documentaries scheduled for release in 2027, her upcoming work will add to the range of projects represented in her portfolio.

Her professional achievements are best understood through the projects themselves: the different formats she has worked in, the responsibilities she has undertaken, and the recognition associated with selected films. Rather than relying on one genre or platform, her experience reflects an editorial practice shaped by adapting to the demands of each production.

Ultimately, versatility in editing is not simply a matter of working across multiple formats. It involves understanding what each project requires and making decisions that support its particular story, purpose, and audience. For Iyer, that remains the central question behind every edit: what is the most effective way to bring this particular story into focus?
