The Blessed Ones highlights the importance of independence, inclusion and holistic child development
New Delhi [India], October 27: On the occasion of World Occupational Therapy Day, the invaluable contribution of occupational therapists in promoting children’s development, independence and social participation was highlighted. Amittej Priyadarshi, Founder of The Blessed Ones, emphasised that occupational therapy goes beyond treatment. It empowers children to develop essential life skills, build confidence and participate more meaningfully in everyday life.
Occupational therapists work across clinics, schools, homes and community settings, helping children overcome challenges in daily activities. From holding a pencil and learning to write to dressing, eating and performing personal care tasks, therapists support children in developing the skills they need to become more independent.
Supporting Every Child’s Holistic Development
According to The Blessed Ones, occupational therapy plays an important role in supporting children’s physical, sensory, emotional and social development. Its purpose is not merely to address difficulties but to help every child recognise their strengths and achieve their potential.
Occupational therapists develop individualised approaches based on each child’s needs and abilities. They support sensory processing, emotional regulation, social communication and participation in everyday activities, helping children navigate challenges with greater confidence.
Amittej Priyadarshi emphasised that every child’s developmental journey is unique. Rather than comparing children with one another, families and professionals should celebrate individual progress, effort and achievements. Collaboration among parents, educators and therapists can make a meaningful difference in a child’s growth.
Abhirupa Dutta Chakraborty, an occupational therapist associated with The Blessed Ones, highlighted the importance of looking beyond a diagnosis to understand a child’s individual needs, strengths, interests and potential.
Tanya Pawan Bharti stressed the need for inclusive education and equal opportunities. True inclusion, she noted, means more than simply allowing children to enter schools or community spaces. It means ensuring that they are accepted, respected and given meaningful opportunities to participate.
Awareness Must Be Accompanied by Acceptance
While awareness about occupational therapy continues to grow, social acceptance remains equally important. Understanding sensory needs, behavioural differences and developmental challenges can help communities adopt a more compassionate and supportive approach towards children.
Sanika Tidke, an occupational therapist associated with The Blessed Ones, emphasised the importance of translating acceptance into everyday actions. Effective communication, understanding sensory needs, creating supportive environments and respecting a child’s independence are essential elements of this approach.
Meghana Pathak highlighted the importance of everyday skills in building independence. Activities such as dressing, eating, personal care and participating in daily decisions can strengthen a child’s confidence and sense of achievement.
Ankita Mukundpade emphasised the importance of family empowerment, access to appropriate information and continuous support. Lakshmi R Sutar highlighted the need to respect the dignity, independence and social participation of both children and adults.
Naina Raj underlined that success should not be measured solely through conventional achievements. Confidence, independence and meaningful participation in life are equally important indicators of progress.
Families and Communities Share the Responsibility
World Occupational Therapy Day serves as a reminder that building an inclusive society requires the collective efforts of families, educational institutions, healthcare professionals and communities.
Children need more than therapy to flourish. They also need patience, encouragement, respect and equal opportunities to learn and grow.
The Blessed Ones expressed gratitude to occupational therapists for their dedication, compassion and continued efforts to empower individuals and families. The organisation’s message is clear: every child deserves the opportunity to develop according to their abilities, lead a more independent life and participate in society with dignity.
The message is simple yet powerful: Inclusion is not merely about allowing everyone to be present; it is about acceptance, equal opportunities and empowering every individual to realise their full potential.
