Desun Hospital launches an organ donation awareness campaign, urging people to turn the spirit of giving into a gift of life
Kolkata: As Kolkata prepares for the grandeur and devotion of Durga Puja, Desun Hospital is bringing a life-saving message to the heart of the festivities through a special organ donation awareness campaign, encouraging people to embrace the spirit of giving beyond traditional rituals.
At the centre of the campaign are creative visual representations of two marigold flowers symbolising the kidneys and a lotus bud resembling the human heart. Blending the cultural significance of Durga Puja with the message of organ donation, the campaign carries the evocative Bengali tagline, “অঞ্জলীর স্মৃতিতে থাকুক অঙ্গদানের প্রতিশ্রুতি” (Anjalir Smritite Thakuk Angadaner Protishruti), which conveys the message, “Let the Memory of Anjali Live On Through a Promise of Organ Donation.” The campaign inspires people to transform the spirit of devotion and offering into a commitment that can give others a second chance at life.
Durga Puja represents faith, compassion, hope and togetherness. Through this initiative, Desun Hospital seeks to connect these enduring values with the life-changing potential of organ donation, encouraging individuals and families to learn about the process, make informed decisions and discuss their wishes with loved ones.
Organ donation can offer renewed hope to patients awaiting life-saving transplants and bring new possibilities to families facing critical health challenges. By bringing this important subject into the festive conversation, Desun Hospital aims to encourage greater public awareness and promote informed discussions about organ donation in accordance with established medical and legal guidelines.
Mr. Sajal Dutta, Chairman & Managing Director, Desun Hospital, said, “Durga Puja is a celebration of faith, compassion and the triumph of good over evil. Through this initiative, we want to remind people that the spirit of giving can extend beyond our traditional rituals and become a gift of life itself. Organ donation is one of the noblest acts of humanity, offering hope and a second chance to patients battling life-threatening conditions.”
He added that at Desun, healthcare is not limited to treating illnesses; it also involves creating awareness and inspiring people to make informed choices that can benefit society. “We hope this Durga Puja, our message encourages families to have meaningful conversations about organ donation and consider pledging their organs in accordance with established medical and legal guidelines. Even when we are no longer around, our decision to donate can help others live on. That, perhaps, is one of the most enduring expressions of compassion and humanity.”
Through this festive initiative, Desun Hospital hopes to make organ donation a subject of greater public understanding, reminding people that the true spirit of giving lies not only in what we offer today, but also in the lives we may help save tomorrow.
