New Delhi [India], August 26: At just 27, Anwoy Roy has built a career most musicians twice his age still dream about. Born in India and now based in Los Angeles, Roy has emerged as one of the leading figures in modern music, straddling two worlds with ease: as a frontline artist and guitarist and as a playback engineer trusted by global superstars.
Roy’s story is one of relentless reinvention. He arrived in LA determined to make music his full-time career — and today, he has done just that, achieving complete financial independence through music alone. By upskilling into music technology, live sound, and playback engineering, he has become indispensable both on stage and behind the console.
From Composer to Playback Engineer
On stage, Roy is a composer, music producer, songwriter, and lead guitarist, building emotionally charged songs from the ground up. Off stage, he has quickly become a go-to lead playback engineer for artists who need precision and creativity to power their live shows.
His credits include Phantogram (touring + Jimmy Kimmel Live!), TLC, En Vogue, Sombre, The Sweet Kill, and Deftones, where he supports as a lead playback engineer, live music producer and guitar tech on stage. He also designed and ran playback systems for Mike Sabath’s 2025 U.S. headline tour, operates playback for Shubh’s North American tour, and collaborated with SHEZ of Bantai Records. Most recently, he took the reins as lead sound producer, sound designer, and playback tech for Cortege (Premiering on September 11th in Los Angeles).
And yet, his versatility doesn’t stop with pop and rock tours. Roy has also carved out a place in orchestral and avant-garde music, working alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Maestro Gustavo Dudamel at iconic venues including the Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, and the Green Umbrella Music Festival.
The Artist Behind the Console
Even while building a reputation as one of LA’s leading live engineers, Roy has never stopped releasing his own music. His breakout single “Dil Ne Kaha” skyrocketed past 100,000 streams in under three weeks, earning placements on major Spotify India playlists (New in Dance, Naya Indiestan, New Music Hindi) and nationwide airplay on RedFM 93.5 Bajaate Raho across 37 Indian cities.
His collaboration “Dhuaan” with Ladders was signed to Universal Music India via firstwav and featured in Rolling Stone India, signaling his arrival as a rising artist who can hold his own on both the independent and mainstream stages.
Making It in LA
Surviving — let alone thriving — as an independent musician in Los Angeles is notoriously difficult. But Roy has done it by building a multi-pronged career: producer, composer, session guitarist, live performer, and playback engineer. Each role feeds into the other, giving him both creative freedom and financial stability.
“My mission is to be leading the creative vision — whether that’s writing the music, playing the show, or building the technical foundation that makes the impossible feel effortless,” Roy says.
